Bird Watching

Amma's House is a five minute walk from Ducks Unlimited Sutton Marsh and there are many more Ducks Unlimited sites nearby.

Big Quill Lake is one and one half miles away. This shore line and the entire lake region is  a RAMSAR site and is a Western Hemisphere Shorebird Preserve. This is one of the best birding areas in Western Canada, boasting over 200,000 migratory shore birds as well as twenty five percent of the nesting population of the endangered piping plover.

Quill Lakes Birding

Cozy up in two Bed & Breakfasts in the heart of bird watching country! Recognized as one of two Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve sites in Canada, the area attracts 34 species of shorebirds including the endangered Piping Plover. Take a tour of a working elk farm, Ducks Unlimited marsh and beautiful birding habitat. Other stops to include are the Wynyard Quill Lakes Interpretive Centre and Wadena Wetlands Quill Lakes Interpretive Centre

Two nights accommodation at Amma's House Bed and Breakfast in Wynyard and two nights accommodation at Jandry House Bed and Breakfast in Foam Lake.

Three guided tours:

  • A one-hour tour of a working elk farm and the Ducks Unlimited Marsh
  • A tour on the shores of Big Quill Lake, a RAMSAR site and Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Site
  • A tour of the Foam Lake Heritage Marsh and nearby Fishing Lake area.
